Why do I have to take these tests?

  • +The State of Tennessee requires students attending state-supported colleges and universities to complete these general education assessments as a requirement.
  • +Failure to take these exams will result in having your diploma held until this condition is met.

How many tests do I have to take?

Every senior in the College of Business must take TWO standardized tests to complete the requirements for graduation:

ETS Business Major Field Exam

  • +Tests your content knowledge of the business disciplines
  • +Has 120 multiple-choice questions
  • +Is designed to be a 2-hour test
  • +Has questions about Accounting, Economics, Management, Quantitative Business Analysis, Information Systems, Finance, Marketing, the Legal Environment, and International Issues
  • +Mathematical operations do not require the use of a calculator
  • +To do your best, you should plan to spend the allotted time on the test
  • +Test description and sample questions are available at https://www.ets.org/mft/about/content/bachelor_business

Why should I do my best on these tests?

  • +It is important to you because employers and graduate programs value business knowledge and the ability to think clearly and solve problems. You can use your results to show prospective employers and graduate schools you have the abilities they desire.
  • +Your college degree is worth as much as the university that grants it. By doing your best on these tests, you help raise TTU’s institutional score. The better TTU’s College of Business looks, the better you look.
  • +Your results help the College of Business maintain its AACSB accreditation. The College of Business uses your test results to find ways to improve the business curriculum and programs.
  • +TTU benefits from your success. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission awards funding based in part on institutional scores from tests like these.
